The company logo, a Trident within a circle, is a symbol of their core values, Passion, Diligence, Perfection.

Wusthof has a large inventory of knife products. The are used by well-known chefs to the ordinary cook. This kitchen knife review is going to cover the Classic 7-pc set which has all the knives you will need in your own home kitchen.

Exclusive Precision Edge Technology

WÜSTHOF’S Precision Edge Technology, PEtec, offers superior blade sharpness and has set the new standard for modern cutlery.

Conventionally hand-sharpened knives are plagued by irregularities that diminish the blade’s sharpness and overall performance. Through a proprietary process inclusive of computer-controlled robotics, WÜSTHOF’S PEtec yields a smoother, more refined edge with dramatically increased sharpness and sharpness retention along the entire length of the blade. The result is a knife with a definitive advantage for every home or professional chef.

The Technology:

  • Before sharpening, the blades are measured using lasers to ensure accuracy
  • Computers calculate the precise sharpening angle for each blade
  • Precision robots sharpen the blades on a whetstone
  • The knives are given a final polish using a specialized disc

The Benefits:

  • The quality of forged WÜSTHOF knives produced using the PEtec process is significantly higher than that produced by the standard manual sharpening process.
  • Extremely high cutting performance with a 20% sharper edge
  • Doubles the edge retention
  • Optimum cutting edge along the entire length of the blade
  • Unique, consistently high and reproducible quality

The Classic 7-pc set has a double bolster design which give it a professional-style heft and exceptional balance and is good-looking. The handles are made of a synthetic material, which is highly durable for a long-lasting knife. Polyoxymethylene (POM) is an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability. POM resists fading and discoloration of the knife handle. The handle’s elegant shape is designed for a comfortable grip.

CLEANING AND STORING OF YOUR KNIVES

Always be careful when handling any knife as the blades are shape and can easily cause an injury, as these are some of the sharpest cooking knives available.

You should always hand wash these knives, using the dishwasher is not a good idea. These knives are high quality and top of the line so treat them as such.

Use a clean cloth and a mild detergent and warm water. If treated properly these knives will serve your needs for many years to come. They are designed to be treated with respect.

Store your knives the proper way to keep the edges sharp and ready to cut, chop, dice or peel any food you choose. Always make sure they are completely dry before you put them away. This 7-pc set comes with a six-slot slim line block. This will not take a lot of space on your countertop but is an excellent place for storing your knives. Two magnetic holders are another method of storage. If you have limited space, this may a good option as the can be hung on the wall or place on a flat surface such as a drawer. The magnets will hold the knives apart from each other so the edges do not get dull. If you like to take your knives with you when you are away from home, a knife case or knife roll can protect you knives as you take them from place to place.

KEEPING YOUR KNIVES AT THEIR BEST.

There is a method called honing, which calls for a tool which is made of steel and called a honing steel. This method will maintain your knives by realigning the microscopic teeth along the blade. It is best if you read the instruction on how to do this properly. There are instructional videos on the internet.

Sharpening is different from honing. There are different methods of sharpening a knife. Sharpening remove a small amount of the edge using sharpening steel. As these knives are precision blades, I recommend you learn on something other than a Wusthof knife. There also videos on the internet to help you learn.

Pros

  • German made by Wusthof Family
  • Percision Technology
  • Superior blade sharpness
  • Retains sharpness
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Triple riveted handle
  • Beautiful Acacia Wood Knife Block
  • Come-Apart kitchen shears are high quality and easy to keep clean

Cons

  • Expensive but very high quality
  • Extremely sharp (need to be careful when handling)
  • Not dishwasher safe

Conclusion

These knives are some of the highest quality knives available. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. With proper care these knives will last a lifetime. I believe the are worth the cost. They are an investment in making cooking a pleasure.

I hope this Kitchen knife review has given you information enough to make an informed decision when purchasing your 7- pc knife set which you can find on Amazon.

Convection Oven Cooking Review-What Is It and Why Use It

Product: Breville Smart Oven Pro

Warrant: One year Limited

Check this out at Amazon

What is convection cooking?

It is heating food using the circulation of hot air. A fan is used to circulate the heat evenly.

The hot air is circulated within the oven, which speed up the heating time by forcing the cold air to the bottom. This process will evenly cook the food in the oven.

Why convection oven cooking .

The convection oven cooks 30% faster than non-convection. Everyone has busy schedules these days, so cooking needs to be done as quickly as possible. Convection oven cooking is a great way to do this. This oven will do many of the things the oven in your stove will do only faster.

A conventional oven only allows you to place the food in the center of the rack. Multiple dishes in a conventional oven will not cook evenly as the air is not circulated evenly. Preheating time is longer so it takes more energy. A convection oven will allow you to do all of this and more.

Breville Smart oven Pro is constructed from brushed stainless steel. It is 15-3/4 x 18-1/2 x 11 in size. The cavity is large enough to hold a 9 x 13 pan, and has non-stick coating for easy cleanup. One rack comes with the oven but another one can be purchased and will work as the shelves are adjustable. A 2 pc broiler pan and a pizza pan are part of the package. The oven temperature ranges from 150 degrees to a high of 500 degrees.

The Breville Smart Oven Pro has an interior light to allow you to see your food as it cooks. There are 10 preset cooking functions that allow you to make 6 slices of toast or bagels at one time which is great for morning breakfast. The preset functions are toast, bagel bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, reheat, warm and slow cook. The settings will allow you to put your food in the oven and a push a button to start the process. This oven is large enough to roast a whole chicken. This makes convection oven cooking easy.

The smart element IQ smart heat has 1800 Watts of power which transfers heat across 5 quartz elements for precise and stable heat. The heat is automatically adjusted to maintain the same temperature during the cooking process. You will have prefect results every time. With this much heating power your convection oven will preheat much faster.

Pros

  • Heats food using circulation of hot air by heating element and fan.
  • The food cooks faster saving energy.
  • Stackable rack, can cook more than one dish at a time and food will cook evenly.
  • Place dish anywhere in oven and it will cook evenly.
  • Aluminum foil can be used just be careful not to touch the sides or back of oven
  • Extra warranty is available

Cons.

  • Recipes will need some adjustments, it is best to find convection oven cooking recipes.
  • Dough will not rise, need regular oven.
  • Cannot cover or block the fan.
  • Fan is an extra part that can fail but most ovens last a very long time without this problem.

Conclusion

Convection oven cooking is going to cut down on the time it takes to cook your meal. It will be more energy efficient. Breville Smart Oven Pro is made by a company that was founded in 1932 and has become a global icon in the kitchen appliances and delivers to over 70 countries.

There are many features that will make cooking by convection easier and faster than the conventional oven. If you are thinking of adding an extra oven, I think you will find the Breville Smart Oven Pro will more than meet you needs and expectations.

Directions for Simple baked Chicken

  2. Rub chicken breasts with olive oil and sprinkle both sides with salt and Creole seasoning.

Calphalon Cookware Review-50 Years and still rowing

  • Product: Calphalon Premier Space saving non-stick cookware
  • Price: $649.99
  • Check this out at Amazon
  • Manufacturer Warranty
  • Set Includes: 8″ fry pan, 10″ fry pan, 12″ fry pan, 2.5 qt saucepan with lid, 3.5 qt saucepan with lid, 4.5 qt soup pan with lid, 3 qt saute pan with lid, 5 qt saute use with lid, 8 qt stockpots with lid

Calphalon was created by a small company in Toledo, Ohio, where they are still today. They manufactured commercial cookware in the beginning but when they developed the process of hard anodizing (50% stronger than stainless steel) in the 1960’s they named it calphalon. Over the years they have been a leader in the cookware industry.

Calphalon Cookware is made from durable hard anodized aluminum and is FDA approved. The non-stick coating does have PTFE (Polyetrafluoroethylene) which is used to create the corrosion resistant, non-stick coating. If you this is a concern for you it can be researched at metcoat.com/ptfe-coatings.htm. As noted above, it is FDA approved.

This cookware is stackable in any order saving up to 30% storage space. The lids are flat tempered glass which make them durable and dishwasher safe and they are designed to make this set stackable. The aluminum handles stay cool during cooking. I can say this true as I have a set of Calphalon Cookware.

Calphalon Cookware is a little heavier than some other products out there but the are more durable. The weight of the pots and pans is approximately 3 – 5 pounds.

It does not matter what type of cooking stove you have. This cookware will work with gas, electric or glass top. You just have to adjust to you method of heat. These pots and pans are designed to distribute heat evenly so your food will cook evenly. It is always good to read the manufacturers instructions.

Any type of utensils can be used. Even though they say this, I personal only use silicone or Teflon coated. They are scratch resistant but why take a chance by using metal.

In addition to the set described above, Calphalon has smaller, non stackable, non-stick sets but if your storage space is limited and you want astackable set the 15 pc is what you need.

Calphalon has a stainless steel line of cookware that is not non-stick but of high quality steel. Check this cookware out at Amazon.com

Thanks for reading my Calphalon Cookware Review. If you would like to add a comment or ask a question I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Instant Pot Pressure Cooker Review-Cooking Made Much Easier

Product: Instant Pot Programmable Pressure Cooker

Price: $159.99

Warranty: I year Limited

Capacity: 8 quarts

Warranty: 1 Year Limited

Check this out at Amazon.com

What is an Instant Pot

The Instant Pot Pressure Cooker was created by a group of Canadian technology veterans that wanted to make cooking easier and healthier for busy families. The hope was to have people eating less fast food. It is made of food grade stainless steel. Their objective was to have a pot that was dependable and safe.

The instant pot pressure cooker is a programmable multi-purpose cooking pot. It can be used as a slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker, cake maker, egg cooker, steamer, sterilizer, warmer and can also saute. It is like having 9 pots in one easy to use pot. The instant pot allows you to cook fast (with pressure-cooking function) or has a slow cook option.

The high and low pressure allows you to brown foods and also you can thicken your food, such as gravy, after cooking. There really isn’t a lot that you can’t do with this pot. Cooking with the instant pot allows you to cook your meal without constantly keeping your eye on the stove. The pressure cooker will cook your meal in considerably less time.

Is safety an issue?

The instant pot pressure cooker is food safe. The instant Pot has many built-in mechanisms that help prevent a horrible mistake. There is an automatic pressure release value to prevent the pressure building up but if this should fail, there is a sensor to shut off the heating element. The lid has two safety latches to stop you from opening the pot while is under pressure.

Pros and Cons

The Pros:

  • multi-purpose pot
  • faster meals
  • built in safety features
  • slow cooking or faster pressure-cooking
  • easy to read display buttons
  • stainless steel food grade pot
  • all parts except the cooker base are dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.

The Cons

  • Must read manual
  • The 8 qt is probably too large for some families but there are smaller ones
  • It is a pressure cooker, it will need to realest the pressure before removing lid.
  • Cannot be used for pressure canning

need to use recipes especially for pressure cooker to insure they will be right.

Conclusion

The instant pot is an essential kitchen gadget for the busy kitchen.  You can put your food in the pot in the morning and go off for the day or you can come home and have a meal ready in a short period of time. As you can see the pros out weight the cons. I have family members that use the instant pot for almost everything they cook including making a cake.

A recipe you may enjoy.

Foolproof Instant Pot Chicken Breast Recipe or how to cook boneless chicken breasts from fresh or frozen perfectly every time. Then shred or cube, and use in your favorite dishes throughout the week.

  • Author: ifoodreal.com
  • Prep Time: 2 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs boneless chicken breasts, fresh or frozen*
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • To the Instant Pot, add water and place trivet with handles inside. Lay chicken breasts in a single layer (if using frozen make sure they are separated) and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Toss to coat evenly with tongs or hands.
  • Close the lid, set pressure vent to Sealing and press Pressure Cooking on High for 20 minutes for fresh or 25 minutes for frozen chicken breasts. Display will say ON, Instant Pot will take about 10 minutes to come to pressure, you will see a bit of steam coming out from a valve, then float valve will rise and countdown will begin.
  • After 20-25 minutes your chicken is ready, Instant Pot will beep, display will say OFF and now it needs to bring pressure down before you can open it, which will be indicated by a dropped down float valve. It is called Natural Release and I don’t recommend to do Quick Release (turning sealing valve to Venting position) with this recipe. It should take about 10-15 minutes.
  • Open the lid and your chicken breasts are ready for meal prep, casseroles, salads etc. Shred or cube, and save the stock at the bottom for soup. If using frozen chicken breasts, make sure they are separated.
  • Think about it before freezing a whole tray, separate them with parchment paper

Please feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have and I will answer as soon I can. Your feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Kitchenaid Mixer Review-a Little History Plus

History of Kitchenaid

This kitchenaid mixer review will be a little different because I decided to do a little history of the Kitchenaid mixer. There is more history but I think I covered the evolution of the Kitchenaid brand.

Kitchenaid mixer has been around for a very long time. The kichenaid brand was owned by Whirlpool Corporation The company was started in 1919. The Hobart Corporation, owned by Whirlpool was the company that produced the stand mixer.

The idea for the stand mixer was formulated by Herbert Johnson, engineer. He got his inspiration from a baker mixing dough and decided there had to be a better way. The result was the Model H and was launched for industrial work. The United States Navy ordered the mixers for two of their new battleships as a test and by 1917 Hobart stand mixers were in the kitchen of all navy ships.

The H-5″ was the first model to be introduced. As competition was starting to come into play, they introduced the Model K in the 1930s. The model K was designed by Egmont Arens. The brand’s stand mixers has not changed very much in design and the attachments from the model K can be used on modern mixers. This does not include all attachments such as the beater and bowls.

The first mixer to carry the Kitchenaid name was the 10-quart C-10 model introduced in 1918. It was built in Springfield, Ohio by Troy Metal Products, a subsidiary of Hobart Corporation. The name came from a wife of one of the company executives when she said it is was the best kitchen aid she had ever had.
Retailers weren’t interested in selling the Kitchenaid mixer so they hired a staff of mostly women to sell door to door. The C-10 was also marketed to soda fountains and commercial kitchens.

Kitchenaid mixers remained very popular and by the 1930’s the would be all sold out by Christmas. Then World War II came and the factory was closed. It reopened in 1946 and the factory moved to Greenville, Ohio for expansion. The growth and modernization of Kitchenaid mixers has continued until today. Kitchenaid mixer is the most well-known name in stand mixers.

The basic design of the mixer has stayed relatively the same over the many years. The Museum of Modern Art has named the Kitchenaid Stand mixer an American Icon.

My kitchenaid mixer review will cover the most popular machines,

The Classic

This mixer is the most affordable that does not take away from the value. It has a 4.5 qt stainless steel bowl. 250 watts of power. This definitely a starter mixer and will do your normal work. It will work well for cookies, cake mixes and much more.

Artisan

This is the most popular mixer. It has a tilt head, with a 5 qt stainless steel bowl. A 325 Watt motor with enough power to mix dough, but not recommended for continues use as a dough maker. If you do a lot of large batches of cookies or dough, you should look at the Professional or Commercial mixers. This mixer is said to be user-friendly but a little heavy. There are other styles of the Artisan.

The Artisan Mini

A smaller version of the popular Artisan mixer which is approximately 20% smaller. The mixing bowl is 3.5 qts. It has 250 watts of power which is the same as the classic. Many people like this size because it is easier to handle and store but will still do the normal things like cookies and cakes. This model is called the Artisan Mini.

Professional 600

The most powerful of the home use models. It has a 6 qt bowl. The 550 watts of power allows you to make several dozen cookies at one time, also extra batches of bread dough, With this design the bowl tilts up and down instead of the tilt head. Some people like this feature because they feel it is easier to add ingredients. There are other models in this series that have different features. The Professional 600 also come in different colors.

Commercial

This model is the most powerful one and used mostly in restaurant and bakery kitchens. It has an 8 qt mixing bowl, the largest one used.

The 8 qt mixing bowl will hold 14 cups of flour. This machine is able to mix dough for 8 1/4 loaves of bread. The commercial Kitchenaid is NSF and UL rated for food service,

Colors and Attachments

There are approximately 59 colors in the kitchenaid lab but not all models come in all the colors. Each model has a variety of colors so I am sure you can find a color that you like in whatever model you want.

There are models that have the attachments included but not all. Some specialty attachments are,  pasta roller, flex edge beater, food processor and ice cream maker. If you have attachments for your mixer and are planning to purchase a new one you might want to check because some attachments are interchangeable.

Conclusion

Kitchenaid mixers have been manufactured here in America for a very long time. They had their ups and downs but they didn’t give up, even after the war.

I wrote this Kitchenaid mixer review in hopes that I could shed some light on the models that are available and a little of their differences. I didn’t cover every model but I hope in the end you have an idea of what you are looking for. Fortunately there is a model that will fit the needs of everyone.

Kitchenaid is one of the oldest and most trusted names in stand mixers. The idea was born in America and today they are still making stand mixers in their facility in Greenville, Ohio.

Please feel free to leave any comments or ask an questions and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Compare Coffee Makers Review-Look How They Have Evolved.

In today’s world, coffee is the way many people start the day. Many others drink multiple cups throughout the day. Since it is such an important part of daily life for so many people, I decided to compare coffee makers to see what makes them different.

As far as the brands are concerned, there are so many it would be hard to list each one. I am going to show you the different coffee makers and how they work.

Percolator

This coffee maker is like the one people used before the 1970 when the automatic drip pot came on the market. The coffee was made by cycling boiling water through the grounds by gravity, until the desired strength was achieved.

If you compare coffee makers of today, this one would not be in the running. This type of pot is popular with outdoor campers because they can make coffee either on a camp stove or open fire. I can remember my Mom using this type of pot and it took a long time to convince her to us an electric pot.

Electric Coffee Maker-

This type of coffee maker in reality, is a percolator that is electric rather than stove top. They work in the same way but the water is boiled by a heating element built into the coffee pot.

There are several models of this coffee pot and they are still quite popular today, which is a surprise. Fans of this coffee pot believe it makes a better cup of coffee.

The next type of electric coffee maker is,( just for example), Mr. Coffee. This model has a glass carafe that sits on a warmer. There is a swing away door near the top that opens for the filter. You put the amount of coffee into the filter, shut the door and open the lid on top of the pot where the water goes. You will be able to measure the water with the carafe. Turn on the switch, water goes through coffee and into the carafe. Not a lot of mess as the filter holds the ground and are thrown away.

This model of coffee maker is still very popular partly because it is cheaper than some of the newer coffee makers of today.

French Press-

These coffee makers are affordable and easy to use If you like your coffee stronger this may be for you. The french press is known for making stronger than usual coffee. The way it works is, you have your coffee press and coarsely ground coffee. Put the coffee into the container, add boiling water, let set for 3 or 4 minutes, put lid on, which is the press and push to the bottom.

There are several models meaning you can find different features that you may or may not need. A simple one is a glass container with a lid that is the press.

Some models come with a frother so you can froth (which means make it bubbly) milk for your coffee, or to blend hot chocolate.

Single Cup Coffee Makers-

There are different models of this type of coffee maker. What it means is, you can put a coffee pod into the machine and make a single cup of coffee. Most have different size cup settings so you can make it weaker or stronger, plus you can buy a variety of cups that have milder or stronger flavors.

Kuerig is the best known name in single cup machines and k-cups are the best known cups but there are others out there. The closest to Kuerig is Ninja and Cuisinart. All three have good rating. I believe you need to compare coffee pots to find the one you feel will be the best for you. This Kuerig is available at Amazon

Coffee Bars-

The Ninja brewer allows you to brew as much as you want using any of the 5 brew methods in all sizes for either a single cup or carafe. It also has a built-in milk frother and heating plate.

This one has more flexibility compared to the other machines. I only used ninja as an example of what a coffee bar is compared to a coffee maker. There are several other manufactures that have good quality coffee bars.

Espresso Maker

What is espresso? It is a strong black coffee made by forcing steam through ground coffee which is a blend of several types of coffee beans from different countries. You can use regular coffee in an Espresso Machine but it will not be the same.

You will not be able to make espresso in your regular pot. There are dual makers so that you can have coffee or espresso using one machine.

Summarizing-

Coffee pots to coffee maker plus. When you look back, it is hard to compare coffee pots to the coffee makers of today. You can get specialty coffee at a coffee shop but since we live very busy lives, it is sometimes more convenient to have a specialty machine at home. The come in many models, sizes and shapes, but when you compare coffee makers of today and coffee pots of years ago most of them have the same basic concept. You need a way of running the water through the coffee to get drinkable coffee. I am not a fan of specialty coffee so I use my single cup machine and I am very happy. For those of you that like to enjoy that special cup of coffee, there are many choices.

If you are looking for a new coffee pot or coffee maker, you will have lots of options. I hope I have helped you with a few of your questions but If I can answer any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Comments are greatly appreciate.

Blender or Juicer Review-Which One Do You Need and Why

If you look up either blender or juicer you will find many models for each one. The decision is hard. The question is do I need a blender or do I need a juicer. A blender can be a multi-purpose gadget but the juicer cannot.

When looking, you will also find that the prices range from very expensive to considerably cheaper. Some blenders will come with attachments and others won’t. Maybe I can leave you with a little insight to what makes them different.

The dictionary definition of a blender:

An electric culinary grinding and mixing appliance, consisting of a container with propeller like blades at the bottom that are whirled by a high-speed motor to purée, chop, or mix foods.

What does this mean ?

It means that a blender is usually designed for food preparation and will not do anything other than what it says, purée, chop, or mix foods. This was true in the beginning but over time they have evolved. You can still buy a simple blender that will do what the dictionary says but it doesn’t stop there.

There are high-powered blenders that can do just about anything you want it to, including crushing ice and frozen fruit. These blenders can also be used as juicers.

The dictionary definition of a juicer

An appliance for extracting juice from fruit and vegetables.

What does this mean?

It means that basically a juicer can be used to make juices by extracting the juices from fruit and vegetables and separating the pulp from the juice to make healthy drinks. A juicer cannot really be used for other things.

Juicing makes the fruit and vegetables into liquid and a more enjoyable drunk because you get non of the pulp. Some experts believe you should have the pulp as our bodies need the fiber.

They do have some that are high-powered enough to crush ice in your mixture.

Deciding which one, do I need a blender?

Before buying a blender or juicer, you need to decide if you only want to make healthy drinks from fresh fruits and vegetables or do you want to have a blender that can also be a juicer.

Price may be a factor in your decision as blenders/juicers can be more expensive. If you only want a blender for helping to prepare food for a meal you can find one at a reasonable price that will serve you well.

Blending is the process of using fruits and vegetables to make a healthy drink. The fruit and vegetables are put into the bender and completely blended until they are of a thick consistency, usually called a smoothie. With a blender you get all the nutrients from the ingredients. Some experts believe this is better for you because of the pulp in the drink.

If you want a blender that will crush ice, chop nuts, and nearly everything else, you will find those that have up to 1200 watts of power, which means it is pretty powerful. Some will come with a food processor attachment and an attachment to become a juicer. These type of blenders will be more expensive but will do more. The cleanup of a blender is more difficult as you have to be very careful as the blades are very sharp.

Deciding Which One, Do I need a Juicer?

Juicers are great for making the fresh healthy drinks so many people are drinking today. The biggest difference between a blender or juicer is what they can do. A juicer is excellent for making a healthy drink, but the cleanup can be a process as there are several parts to clean and the tiny teeth in the extractor can make it difficult to get the pulp out. Many people who have purchased the juicer end up not juicing because of the cleanup.

There are several brands of juicers on the market. If you plan to use it often, I would suggest you invest a little more and get a better one. The old saying, you get what you pay for will apply here.

People are juicing today because it is a healthier lifestyle. There are many books on the benefits of juicing.

The conclusion

Today we are all trying to live healthier lifestyles for longer and healthier lives. Smoothies and Juices are becoming more and more popular, In order to do either, you have to either have a blender or juicer. The one you decide on will be a matter of choice.

The blender can do other things and you can buy them with juicer attachments. Juicers are used for juicing. If you only want to make healthy juices, then a juicer will work very well for you. If you want a gadget that can do multiple duties, you will be happier with a blender.

Blenders can have a lot of extras, but if you are not going to need them, it is better to buy a simpler, less expensive one.

Remember, when you make your purchase, choose the gadget that will serve your needs the best. Take into consideration all the pros and cons of each and then make a decision.
